Press conference call to launch the official countdown to a

major international sporting event coming to Toronto

TORONTO – June 30, 2010 - A press conference and unveiling ceremony will be held on the 15^th of July 2010 at the Varsity Center in the University of Toronto to launch the official countdown to the 2012 World Deaf Athletics Championships (WDAC).

The 2012 WDAC will take place at site of the press conference and unveiling ceremony from the 15^th to the 21^st of July 2012, where 700 high-performance deaf athletes from 60 countries are expected to participate.

The Host Committee of the 2012 WDAC is enthusiastic about this event and is working hard on its development. They are working closely with the City of Toronto, Tourism Toronto, the University of Toronto, the Canadian Deaf Sports Association and the Ontario Deaf Sports Association.

The 2012 WDAC is not just an international athletic competition, but also a celebration of a very diverse Global Deaf Community as individuals of various backgrounds from all across North America and around the world unites in Toronto in 2012. It will be a unique opportunity, for both hearing and deaf people alike, to have a better understanding of each other and develop new friendships. Toronto has one of the most culturally diverse Deaf communities in the world, making it a perfect place to host such a significant event in many respects.
