COACHES PROUD OF CSD PLAYERS IN NCS GAME

CSD-4   Point Arena-7

The 6th seed, CSD Eagles took on the 3rd seed, Point Arena Pirates yesterday on the first round of the NCS Championship Division VI Tournament. The Eagles, while down 2 starters due to injury and an undisclosed situation, played very strong.  At one point the Pirates had a 3-0 lead, but the Eagles did not give up.  In the fifth inning, the Eagles were able to come back and tie the game 4-4.  But in the end, the Pirates of Point Arena were able to put up 3 insurance runs and win the game.

The Coaching staff is very proud is the 2010 Varsity Boys Baseball team.  After 8 players of the 2009 team not returning this year, the coaching staff was ready to call this a "re-building" year.  But the 10 new players that joined our Varsity team came together and bonded.  They worked together, learned together, strived together and had a winning season (15-6) TOGETHER!!!!  There is no "I" in team.  They did it together.

When you see a player with an orange billed, white hat, with a black C on it, give them a pat and the back and tell the "Good Job" and congratulate them on a great season.

This year was only the third time in CSD history that the Varsity Baseball team qualified for the NCS Tournament.

EAGLES FINISH IN 2ND PLACE IN BCL LEAGUE

CSD-0   Fremont Christian-13

The Eagles of CSD (2nd seed) took on the Warriors of Fremont Christian (1st seed) in the BCL League Championship game yesterday.

But it just wasn’t meant to be for the Eagles as the defense committed 12 errors and the offense only got 3 hits.  Marcos Esqueda went 2-for-2 at the plate helping prevent the Warriors pitcher from throwing a ‘no-hitter’. Carlos Lopez also got a hit for the Eagles.  Also, Carlos pitched giving up only 7 hits while striking out 7 and only walking 4.  Out of the 13 runs only 4 were earned.

The coaching staff is now applying for and NCS berth for the championship tournament for division VI schools.  There are 17 schools in this division and the tournament is an 8-team tournament.  We should find out on May 24th if the Eagles from CSD will be in the NCS Tournament with the first game being on Tuesday, May 25th.

Wish us LUCK!!!

Blake leads attack as Eagles claim first MISAL title.

Albert Blake (sophomore), his bat gets hot as he went 3-5 with 1 double, 1 triple, and 6 RBIs. He led an Eagles attack that scored 6 runs in the first inning.  The Eagles started off a bit nervous trailing 0-2 going into the bottom of the 1st, but once the nerves settled, MSSD never looked back, winning 20-2.  Richard Navarro pitched a great game pitching 5 innings and striking out 8.  Playing at Gallaudet University for the second time this year, Spencerville Adventist Academy could not bring the same level of play as they did in the first game against the Eagles back in March 19th, where the Eagles narrowly won 8-7 in 8 innings.  This game concludes a 12-3 season by the MSSD Eagles, improving from last years 8-10 record.  Head Coach David Rice, would like to thank each and every player, especially the seniors, for such a great year.  He would also like to thank his 3 assistant coaches, Kevin Alley, Darrin Brecheen and Jimmy Drury, for all their hard work.  Lastly, he would like to thank the MSSD athletic administration, Mark Burke and Nanette Virnig for their hard work and support throughout the year.

EAGLES VICTORIOUS IN ROUND ONE OF BCL PLAYOFFS

 CSD-5   St. Elizabeth-4

For the second game in a row, it came down to the last inning.  The Eagles were once again playing against St. Elizabeth.  And again it was a very exciting game.  The Eagles used all aspects of the game and strategies to pull out this victory.  With the Eagles getting out hit, 7 - 2, they relied on their base-running and defense.  There was one play that was executed perfectly.  A ball was hit down the line in right field.  Zepsi Prader ran the ball down into the corner and relayed it to short-stop Zac Kohler.  The runner was trying to stretch this hit into an "in-the-park" homerun.  But Zac gunned the ball to the catcher, Cody Mitchell and tagged the runner out. It was a great play and ended inning. Other defensive plays came for Richie Dunn, he caught two high fly balls that were hit to center field. Jacy Dike made a great play at second base that foiled a possible rally inning.  And Carlos Lopez pitched a stunning game by striking out 11 batters.

The Eagles will go on to play first seed, Fremont Christian in the BCL Round Two-"Championship game" on Tuesday, May 11th @ Fremont Christian High School.
