Washington, DC - The final rounds of the National Academic Bowl battled two teams, Maryland School for the Deaf and Metro Deaf School/Minnesota North Star Academy team. And in the end, Maryland School for the Deaf claimed the victory title.

In a charged atmosphere that pitted four-person teams against each other in a fast-paced format, the final night at the National Academic Bowl brought together two teams who had survived the two days of competition.

16 teams from all over the nation arrived Gallaudet University on April 25th hoping to claim the prized possession of being 2010 National Academic Bowl Champion.  Only one can come out winner.  The remaining 15 teams will bring home a lifetime of memories.

2 days of grueling matches, two schools came out undefeated with 7-0, Metro Deaf School/Minnesota North Star Academy and California School for the Deaf, Fremont.  However, CSD, Fremont was beaten by Metro Deaf School/Minnesota North Star Academy in the semifinals.  2009 champions, University High School finished 8th place this year.  Maryland, 2009 finished 3rd place vows to go in the Championship game by beating Florida School for the Deaf and Blind.

Championship round Academic Bowl Moderator was Andy Tao, who joked with the contestants to ease the tension. There were the nervous grins; the competitive juices of these contestants ran high.

The Maryland School for the Deaf and the Metro Deaf School/Minnesota North Star Academy team met for the championship round and managed to stay neck-and-neck, but in the end of third round, Maryland School for the Deaf took the lead. Final score: Maryland School for the Deaf 53, Metro Deaf School/Minnesota North Star Academy 39.

The awards, the 2010 Outstanding Player goes to Bri Herold from Metro Deaf School/Minnesota North Star Academy and the 2010 Sportsmanship Award goes to The Learning Center.

2011, the 15th year of National Academic Bowl will be different from the first 14 years.  For the first time ever, Gallaudet University will be the host place of 80 teams during the weekend of March 4th to 7th.   They all will compete for the bragging rights of 2011 National Champions.  Remember it is all the Brains not the brawl.
