Earlham star was born deaf, but is 'blessed'

Earlham College“I’m just blessed to be able to be in the position that I’m in,” said Laird, who plays shortstop for the Quakers. “When the season’s over, wherever that path takes me – whether it’s going into actual sales profession, or being able to play baseball, it’ll be a blessing from God, and I’m just following His plans.”

Laird reached on an error to open the 10th inning Thursday, and Eric Elkus followed with a single. Following a sacrifice bunt from Addison Robertson, freshman Danny Dopp singled for a 4-3 walk-off victory Thursday at Randal R. Sadler Stadium.
