Deaf USA and Deaf Canada Soccer teams to play at Columbus

Hello everyone (former players, coach, and fans),

We, the committee, honorably invite you as the former Deaf USA Soccer Team to participate in our special event at the Columbus Crew Stadium. The women and men of the Deaf USA Soccer Teams will play against the Deaf Canadian Soccer Team in the afternoon (Kickoff at 12:30 and 3:00 PM) while the Columbus Crew (professional soccer team) will play against Vancouver Whitecaps in the evening (Kickoff at 7:30 PM). In the afternoon and evening, there will be intermissions to honor the former players walking on the field and waving to the audence. The huge screen will show pictures of the former deaf teams since 1965.

Between the Deaf USA and Columbus Crew games (5:30 – 7:30 PM), there will be a big tent to socialize among the old and new players and the screen will show the old times. The pre-video will display how the Deaf USA Soccer Team came back in 1980 and carried on. The biggest sponsor will provide the appetizer. We will have many exhibition booths from some company and organizations in the tent. There will be one cost for only $25 for all three games to watch supportively. You can look at www.thecrew.com/deafsoccer .

Hopefully you can come to the Columbus Crew Stadium on April 28, 2012. You can see the advertisement enclosed (attached file). By the way, if you have any pictures of your old team, will you please email with attached pictures at  This email address is being protected from spambots. Titus and Meyers honored as 2011 Sportsperson of the Year

Sioux Falls, SD - January 31, 2012 – Two United States swimmers have been chosen as the 2011 Male and Female Sportsperson of the Year by the USA Deaf Sports Federation. Marcus Titus and Rebecca Meyers both outshone the competition at the World Deaf Swimming Championships last summer in Portugal to earn this distinction.

Titus has been amongst the USA’s top breaststrokers for the past several years. His best finish/time occurred at the August 2011 ConocoPhillips Nationals, where he clocked 1:00.80 in the 100m breaststroke and finished 3rd. At the World Championships, Titus earned nine medals, including five golds, at the Championships in Coimbra, Portugal. Read full story.

Latest on 2012 Deaf Sports Personality of the Year

The Deaf Sports Personality of the Year (DSPY) is proud to announce that the 2nd Awards night - DSPY2012 - will be held on Saturday the 17th of November 2012 at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, United Kingdom.

After last years immensely successful Awards night, the first of its kind, we received feed back on how to improve the event for next year. Based on this feedback we have sought to find a venue that is accessible to the whole country. The venue chosen is an award-winning one and is home to Coventry City Football Club, additionally it is the UK's largest casino (G Casino). For those needing accommodation there is also beautiful hotel located in the Ricoh Arena called the 'De Vere Hotel'.  The Ricoh Arena has a reputation for being a world-class destination for entertainment and sport, in fact as a part of next years Olympic games this venue will host a number of football matches.

Another reason for choosing the Ricoh Arena www.ricoharenaevents.com is that the feedback received also indicated that although everyone thoroughly enjoyed DSPY 2010 that at times it became difficult to see the stage. We have tried our best to improve on this, the venue is a theatre-style auditorium with tiered seating for a maximum of 650 people. Additionally we will be using a raised platform along with a 7m widescreen television. There is a bar on site, this unlike last years venue, will be in a separate room to the main auditorium, allowing ones to socialise without interrupting the main event. The bar closes at 2am and there is free entry to those who hold DSPY tickets to the Casino, this closes at 6am.

DSPY is a voluntary run project and is independent from any sporting organisation, sourcing its own financial budget (the current budget for DSPY 2012 was set as of 1st January 2011). The DSPY's ethos is to establish working "partnerships" with all Deaf Sports Organisations within the UK, supporting them through the project impartially and fairly.

We are delighted to announce one of this years sponsors, PPVOTE www.ppvote.com  As part of the sponsorship ppvote have agreed to provide CLiKAPADs for the evening awards ceremony. CliKAPADS are an interactive key pad that allows the audience to vote for their favourite sports person on the night. We hope to announce further sponsors from February 2012. Information will be released via the DSPY website, so watch this space:- www.dspy.co.uk

The tickets for DSPY2012 Awards night will be on sale from February 2012.  Watch this space!
