NDIAA recognizes Maryland and Texas as national champions for baseball and softball

The National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA) announced the selections of Maryland (baseball) and Texas (softball) as the 2017 National Champions. Selections for individual honors will be announced at a later date.

Baseball - The national championship is Maryland’s second straight tile and third championship in the program’s history. Maryland’s season was highlighted with their second straight Hoy championship and finished third in the Western division of Maryland Independent Athletic Conference (MIAC).

Softball - The recognition marks Texas’ third straight national championship and sixth overall. Texas also wins their first outright title after sharing the honor with Maryland (2015) and Indiana (2016). Texas won their second straight Hoy championship dominating the competition and also made their first ever appearance in the TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) semifinals.

## NDIAA was established in the summer of 2007 at the Athletic Directors' Conference in New Mexico. Athletic Directors from deaf schools throughout agreed to form NDIAA which would have a committee of Athletic Directors/Supervisors overseeing the selection process for team and individual awards. ##
