MSAD girls play softball with crosstown school

msad trojansTo some, softball looks simple.

To the trained eye, it’s a dance of nuance and sophistication.

Let’s say there’s a runner on first. The batter slaps a hit into the gap in right-center. Everyone has a place to go. The right fielder and centerfielder chase the ball down. The second baseman goes out to take a cutoff throw, the shortstop goes to cover second and the third baseman covers third. But that’s not all. The left fielder comes in to back up the third baseman. The pitcher runs behind home plate to back up the catcher. The first baseman lines up in case the outfielder misses the cutoff. The third baseman directs the cutoff left or right, lining them up for a direct throw to third.

All this requires precise communication, repetition and intelligence. So what happens when two of your players are deaf? Read full story.

CSD Eagles swept a BCL (league) softball doubleheader, beating the Grizzlies 14-9 and 13-3.  I think we’ve got to get better every single day and practice at game speed. Also, we’ve been working really hard on offense this season.
